COST FACT SHEET FOR THE FIRST 12 MONTHS at Graduate Program at COLEMAN UNIVERSITY

Q: How many semesters are there during the first 12 months at Coleman University?

A: There are 3 semesters during the first 12 months, each semester lasting about 4 months.

Q: How much do I need to pay each semester?

A: 1st Semester: Tuition & Fees $ 5,725

2nd Semester: Tuition & Fees 2,812

3rd Semester: Tuition & Fees 2,813

Total Cost First 12 Months $11,350

Q: Can I pay a partial payment on the tuition costs at the beginning of each semester—and then pay the balance after I

receive payment from my internship employment?

A: Yes: You may pay a smaller amount at the beginning of each year, and the university will assist you by co-signing a bank loan for the balance of the tuition, requiring you to repay the bank in monthly payments. Such loans are also available in the 2nd year.

Q: How much do I need to pay per month for living expenses?

A: Coleman estimates that the cost of living alone in a single apartment would be about $900 per month. However, it is estimated that a student who chooses to share an apartment and food with several other students who buy and prepare their own meals together would pay approximately $450 to $550 for their room and board per month. (While some "leads" may be given to student by school as to available accommodations, it is the student’s own personal responsibility to locate his/her own housing and pay for the same.)

Q: How much do I need to pay for other personal expenses?

A: Each student will be responsible to pay for his/her own additional expenses, including cost of books ( ~$500) that may not be provided by the school, plus insurance ( ~$500) and transportation.

Q: After completing 9 months of classes (two semesters), will I be allowed to have an annual break from taking classes?

A: Yes, after completing two semesters you are allowed to take a break of one semester, during which time you will not need to take as many regular classes as in the first semesters.

Q: During the annual break from classes, will I be able to continue working full time?

A: Yes, you will be able to continue working during your annual break; however, you are required to take & pay for a "practicum" course which gives you the legal right to continue your employment in curricular practical training.

Q: During the annual break from classes, will I be able to continue working full time?

A: Yes, you will be able to continue working during your annual break; however, you are required to take & pay for a "practicum" course which gives you the legal right to continue your employment in curricular practical training.

Q: How much money needs to be in my, or my sponsor’s, bank statement in order to be accepted?

A: Both the U.S. consulate and the university require that students provide a personal bank statement or the bank statement of their sponsor showing sufficient funds to cover their expenses for the first academic year, as noted in Section 7d of the I-20 form. A $15,000 bank statement is required for acceptance to the co-op program. This requirement does not mean that the student must pay this much money in their first year; rather, this bank statement merely demonstrates that the student has more than enough money available, from which he/she can pay estimated academic and personal expenses.

Q: Am I guaranteed a job by the university or by the program or its associate?

A: No. It is the responsibility of each co-op student to locate and secure his/her own curricular practical training job.

Q: How much can I earn in Curricular Practical Training as a co-op student?

A: Students in the co-op program are allowed to legally work full time (160 or more hours per month), and will be paid no less than the state minimum wage. Examples of potential incomes for students working full time are as follows:

(1) At $8.00 per hour, a student would earn approximately $1,280 per month.

(2) At $10.00 per hour, a student would earn approximately $1,600 per month.

(3) At $12.00 per hour, a student would earn approximately $1,920 per month.

Students sharing an apartment with two room-mates can expect to pay approximately $650 per month each.    Estimate of cost to buy and prepare meals themselves is between $100 to $150 a month.
